Give your time, change a family’s future
READ runs on more than staff and donations — volunteers help run classrooms, skill-training sessions, health camps and outreach across Ariyalur, Perambalur and Cuddalore. If you want to put real hours behind a cause instead of just a donation, this is how to start.
How it works
Get in touch with our volunteer coordinator and share your interests, skills and availability. We hold orientation sessions at regular intervals so you can see the programmes first-hand before committing — from classroom teaching and vocational-skill support to community health camps and child-protection outreach.
Volunteering with READ is flexible but genuinely long-term: there are no fixed shifts, but the work that changes a child’s or a family’s circumstances takes sustained time, not a single visit. Many of our volunteers are students or working professionals who contribute around their own schedule, individually or as part of a small team.

Where you can help
Pick an area that matches your time and skills — every one of them plugs directly into an active programme.
Teaching & Tutoring
Classroom support at our schools, or one-on-one help for children falling behind.
Skill-Training Support
Help run tailoring, computer, typewriting or book-binding sessions at our vocational centres.
Health & Outreach Camps
Support medical camps, HIV/AIDS awareness drives, and senior-citizen welfare visits.
Good to know
Is this individual or group work? Almost everything at READ is a group effort — volunteers work alongside our staff and each other, not in isolation.
How much time do I need to give? There are no fixed hours. Most volunteers are students or professionals who help on weekends or in blocks of time that suit them — what matters is staying involved long enough to see an activity through.
What if I only have a little time? Even a single skilled session — a computer class, a health talk — helps, as long as it’s planned with our coordinator in advance so it fits into an ongoing programme.
